Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Ranger lineup introduces itself with the XL, featuring a black mesh grille with a black surround, front tow hooks, and halogen lighting. On the XLT, you'll find a Carbon Black-painted mesh grille featuring a silver surround and a power-locking tailgate. The Lariat gets a chrome bar-style grille with a chrome surround, LED lighting, and power-folding mirrors. You can customize your Ranger with several available packages, including an STX Special Edition Package, an FX2 Package, and an STX Appearance Package. Colors like Cactus Gray, Velocity Blue, and Hot Pepper complete the look.
Engine (Power)
With every new Ranger model, you can take advantage of a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine with an output of 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. With that much power, the Ranger can tow up to 7,500 pounds and carry a payload ranging from 1,478 to 1,905 pounds, depending on which configuration you choose. The engine features auto-start/stop technology, which helps the Ranger save fuel by cutting off the engine when pulling up to a stop sign or red light.
Performance
The Ranger comes standard with a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission featuring wide-span gear spacing, three overdrive gears, and drag-reduction functionality, which helps the system deliver quick, smooth shifts up and down the gearbox. A nimble 4x2 system is standard, helping you maneuver through traffic and curvy roads. With the available 4x4 system, you can select four-wheel drive modes for driving on wet roads and other unstable surfaces. When driving conditions are stable, you can switch to the two-wheel drive mode and save fuel.
Interior
The Ranger is available as a four-seater SuperCab or five-seater SuperCrew. Both configurations offer ample headroom and legroom, comfy seating surfaces, and premium accents. Available amenities include dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control, ambient lighting featuring seven selectable colors, and a 10-speaker sound system from Bang & Olufsen. Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system is standard in the XLT and Lariat and is available for the XL. You can also take advantage of a Wi-Fi hotspot that supports up to 10 devices and a smartphone app that lets you track data usage and other vehicle information.
Safety Features
With the Ford Ranger, you can take advantage of a pre-collision assist system that issues audio and visual alerts when it detects an imminent collision. The system applies the brakes if you can't respond in time. When a vehicle enters your Ranger's blind-spot zones, you'll receive a warning from the blind-spot information system, which also senses oncoming traffic when driving in reverse. A lane-keeping system applies corrective steering when your Ranger starts to drift, while automatic high-beam headlights prevent your headlights from blinding drivers by dimming when they sense another vehicle.
