Trim Levels (Exterior)
When determining which 2021 Ranger best suits your lifestyle, you need to first figure out which cab and bed size you want. The extended-cab SuperCab has a 6-foot bed, while and the crew-cab SuperCrew has a 5-foot bed. From there, you can select one of the three trims: XL, XLT, and Lariat. New exterior paint options for 2021 include Cactus Gray, Carbonized Gray, Cyber Orange, and Velocity Blue.
Engine (Power)
Power for the 2021 Ranger comes from a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that gets 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. This engine provides quick acceleration and works well, even if the Ranger is towing or hauling. It comes mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard rear-wheel drive, but you can opt for all-wheel drive.
Performance
Not all vehicles in the compact pickup truck class have fuel economy numbers as impressive as the Ranger's. It gets 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway with rear-wheel drive. Selecting all-wheel drive brings those numbers to 20 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
Payload capacities vary, depending on the size of the bed. The smaller bed can haul 1,580 pounds, while the larger one can haul 1,860 pounds. This latter amount leads the class by a long shot. Selecting the optional tow package to any of the truck's trims allows you to tow up to 7,500 pounds, which also places the truck near the top of its class.
Other vehicles in the Ranger's class offer specific off-road trims, but Ford lets you add optional packages to enhance your driving experience. The FX2, FX4, or the all-new Tremor packages include such features as special off-road tires, skid plates, a terrain management system, and an off-road tuned suspension.
Interior
With the SuperCab model, the Ranger seats four people, while the SuperCrew can fit five passengers. Either option provides you with comfortable seats, and the driver sits up high with a commanding view of the road. Choosing the SuperCrew models gives additional rear-seat space so even adults can stretch out their legs.
For infotainment, its basic audio system consists of a four-speaker stereo connected to AM/FM radio and a 3.5-inch screen. If you're looking for enhanced technology, look at the Lariat trim, which has an 8-inch touch-screen display and navigation as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Safety Features
To keep you and your passengers safe, the 2021 Ranger comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and a rearview camera.
