Trim Levels (Exterior)
You can choose among four trim levels with the 2022 Escape: S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. Thanks to its redesign, the 2022 models no longer resemble the previous boxy generations and have a more aerodynamic feel, which helps improve fuel economy. Its roof racks also have a lower profile to reduce wind resistance.
Engine (Power)
The 2022 Escape has two available turbocharged EcoBoost engines. The standard 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine produces 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. Standard in the Titanium trim and optional in the SEL trim is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that gets 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Both come paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
When it comes to fuel economy, the 2022 Escape attains impressive numbers. Expect to get an estimated 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway with the base engine and front-wheel drive. Opting for all-wheel drive brings those numbers to 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The larger engine gets 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.
All-wheel drive is available on all Escape trims, and the Titanium trim includes this feature as standard. When properly equipped with the larger engine and all-wheel drive, the SUV can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
Interior
With seating for up to five people, the 2022 Escape provides plenty of room for all travelers. The rear seats slide back for extra legroom, or you can move them forward for additional cargo space. Depending on how you configure these rear seats, you have between 33.5 and 37.5 cubic feet of cargo space. Including the area behind the front seats, you get a total of 65.4 cubic feet of space, which is an impressive number compared to other vehicles in its class.
The easy-to-use SYNC 3 infotainment system responds quickly to commands, and you can easily locate physical knobs for climate and audio settings if you'd rather use those than the 4.2-inch touch-screen display. It also comes standard with a USB port, Bluetooth, and a six-speaker stereo. Numerous upgrades are offered, such as an 8-inch touch-screen display, a Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, and a 10-speaker premium stereo system. You can also opt for smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Every 2022 Escape trim comes standard with an abundance of safety features found in Ford's Co-Pilot360 suite, some of which include blind spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. Available upgrades include parallel and perpendicular park assist, adaptive cruise control, and rear parking sensors.
