Sitting between the smaller Escape and larger Explorer, the Ford Edge is a midsize crossover SUV that has a spacious and comfortable interior. Competing with the Nissan Murano and Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Ford Edge is older than its competition but hasn't shown its age. Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2022 Ford Edge has five available trims: SE, SEL, ST-Line, Titanium, and ST. Its entire lineup received new wheel designs, and two gray exterior colors join the palette: Carbonized Gray and Lithium Gray. The SUV comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, while the ST-Line and Titanium trims receive 20-inch alloy wheels. 21-inch alloy wheels complement the ST trim.
Engine (Power)
The 2022 Ford Edge comes standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a fuel-saving start/stop feature that gets 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. The ST trim has a 2.7-liter turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine that gets an impressive 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
When it comes to fuel economy on the 2022 Edge, the base engine gets roughly 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive gives you 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. If you have the turbocharged V-6 engine, expect to get 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
Every Edge trim has an optional all-wheel drive, which comes standard on the ST trim. To maintain its sportier status, the ST trim has gearshift paddles behind the steering wheel. When properly equipped, the Edge can tow a maximum of 3,500 pounds.
Interior
One of the Edge's numerous amenities is its spacious cabin. Without a third row, rear passengers enjoy a generous 40.6 inches of legroom. The SUV comes standard with cloth upholstery and dual-zone automatic climate control, while the SEL adds power-adjustable front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. With the Titanium trim, you gain leather upholstery and the top-of-the-line ST trim includes a heated steering wheel and sports seats with leather suede upholstery.
For the 2022 model year, Ford enhanced the infotainment system for the Edge. All trims receive the latest user-friendly SYNC 4A system which includes Amazon Alexa, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. In addition, every trim gained a massive 12-inch screen, two additional USB ports to bring the total to four, voice recognition, and wireless smartphone integration. The SEL trim has an optional wireless charging pad, which comes standard on the Titanium trim.
Safety Features
To keep you and your passengers safe, the Edge has Ford's Co-Pilot 360 suite of safety features, some of which include forward-collision mitigation with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and automatic high-beam headlights. Drivers can find additional aid through the Co-Pilot 360 Assist+ suite, which adds adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assistance, and lane centering.
